Design

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is a state-of-the-art, world-class facility that was designed to host international conferences, exhibitions, conventions and other events. The CTICC is located in the heart of the CBD, adjacent to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

The CTICC was designed by a team of international architects and engineers, led by South African firm Paragon Architects. The design features two identical curved glass façades which face each other across a central atrium. This allows natural light to flood into the building, and also provides panoramic views of Table Mountain and the city skyline.

The CTICC has a total floor area of 22,000m2 and can accommodate up to 3,000 delegates in its plenary hall. It also has 21 meeting rooms of various sizes, as well as an exhibition hall with space for up to 100 booths. The CTICC is fully equipped with the latest audio-visual and conferencing technology.

The building was completed in 2003 at a cost of R1.4 billion (US$200 million). It has since won numerous awards for its innovative design and sustainable features.

History

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is a world-class convention centre located in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa. It was opened in September 2003 by then-President Thabo Mbeki and is now one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

The CTICC was built on the site of the former Cape Town Civic Centre, which was demolished in 2001 to make way for the new convention centre. The CTICC covers an area of approximately 22,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 3,000 delegates in its plenary hall.

The CTICC has played host to a number of high-profile events since its opening, including the 2004 World Economic Forum Africa Summit, the 2006 Miss World pageant and the 2008 Summer Olympic Games bid presentation ceremony.

Sustainability
